Artist Bio

Elyssa Vega studies at the University of Houston and will graduate with a BFA in Dance in Spring 2020. She began dancing and trained through high school under the direction of instructors such as Keith Cross, Amy Blake, and Dorrell Martin. 

Vega has been a member of the UH Dance Ensemble for the past four years. The Ensemble has given her many opportunities to perform and work with renowned choreographers such as Teresa Chapman, Karen Stokes and Randall Flinn. She was the previous narrator for the Young Audiences Touring Company, in which she traveled to various schools in Texas under the direction of Becky Valls performing an educational arts integrated show “Safari!”. She has previously taught classes of various levels and styles at dance studios such as Dayton Academy of Dance and Pointe of Grace Dance Studio. Additionally, she works one on one with students setting choreography for competition season.

In 2017 Vega traveled to Costa Rica where she had the opportunity to study abroad with professor John Beasant III. At Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, she assisted John with teaching the university’s dance students and setting choreography on the company. 

Her first choreographic work entitled Exulansis debuted in 2018 at UH Goes to the Match and she recently completed her second work MUAH, which closed the 2019 Emerging Choreographers Showcase at Zilka Hall.

 

Vega’s most recent accomplishment is beginning an apprenticeship with Psophonia Dance Company, under the direction of Sophia Torres in early 2019 and performing in her evening length show Colony.
